Since 1986, Dyna Scan Technical Services has been one of the nation's leading providers of predictive maintenance and infrared inspection services. Jim O'Brien came to the industry looking for the opportunity to work with a technology that was on the rise. He built it into a premier IR services provider to major hospital systems and healthcare customers nationwide, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, with technicians covering the country coast to coast, including recent work as far out as Hawaii and Alaska. While roughly 80 percent of Dyna Scan's business remains in healthcare, the team has also expanded into commercial and industrial facilities, insurance clients, and specialized sectors such as pulp and paper.
Long before infrared inspection became a de facto regulatory requirement for hospitals (a mandate that tightened further with the 2023 update to the NFPA standards), Dyna Scan made a defining choice: staff inspections with certified electricians rather than thermographers alone. Customers don't just get an inspection; they get a team that understands their power systems well enough to advise them on the next steps.
Family has always been at the heart of Dyna Scan. Jim's daughter and son have both built vital roles within the business, and his niece, Beth, has become the face of Dyna Scan for many customers. Jim himself remains just as engaged, staying personally connected to the customers who have trusted the company for decades, and working with a close-knit team of a dozen, several of whom have worked with him for years.
In 2026, Dyna Scan joined Guidant Power, a decision made easier by history and by people Jim already trusted. Dyna Scan's roots run deep with Mitchell & Lindsey, founded by Bobby Lindsey, who got his start in the industry at Dyna Scan before launching M&L and later joining Guidant himself. Seeing firsthand how well that move had gone only reinforced what Jim already sensed about Guidant's leadership: people he's described as transparent, principled, and genuine from the top down. With Dyna Scan's infrared expertise and M&L's arc flash and training strength now under one roof, the two businesses give Guidant Power unmatched depth in complex healthcare environments.
